The baby, although it is raining, looks healthy and vigorous, and it seems there is some food in the bag. And the eye looks sick again today.

Mom Preening Babe's Left Eye... To me it from looking at that eye for past few days, it almost looks like stray feathering is growing wrong way and touches/irritates the eye

Looked better for the moment after Mom preened the eye... Really looks like stray feathering irritating eye

What LadyHawk said about the eye " it appears to me that there is something in the eye (feather or nesting material) that is causing some irritation. It does not have any characteristics of a microbial infection"

Lady hawk have been watching eagles, and all types of raptors (including golden eagles) for years. She's the most knowledgeable person I know on this subject. Eagles chicks have their downfeathers at 2 weeks old so he shouldn't get cold.

Actually, just found what LadyHawk said on the matter....so perhaps you misunderstood her...."Eaglets can begin to thermoregulate after 3-4 weeks of age but the female will continue to brood them overnight and during inclement weather until their juvenile flight feathers come in."

May 30, 2021. Interesting Prey Items of the Day.

Eurasian jay (Garrulus glandarius). The finely barred blue and black wing coverts made this one easy to identify.

A second, more thoroughly plucked. Anatomy and size match, and there remains some black and white streaking on the crown. In this one we can also clearly see that it still has its nestling "lips".
